New Zealand's Hottest Music Export Since Split Enz!
How could any music lover not get inspired after listening to GroovExpress? Just one listen to this very innovative jazz & soulful band will show you what it means to be recognised as “The New Beat of Jazz Music” … ‘Live at GVR’ is one of the most brilliant live albums ever recorded & produced… anywhere!
With many artists performing live and trying to capture that “live experience” on an album, it’s not always successful or reproduced as it should be. GroovExpress has not only captured that experience, but they have really set the benchmark for a live recorded album by any artist in any music genre! This brilliant live album really showcases these sensational Smooth Jazz artists from New Zealand at their very best.
Since releasing ‘Ukrainian Doll’ in 2015, GroovExpress has catapulted their wonderful style of Jazz music to the world. Their Jazz is a mixture of an upbeat and accessible fusion of instrumental blues, jazz, and funk that embodies the spirit of the great music icons of the sixties, seventies, and beyond.
The musicians in question, combine to become the group GroovExpress. A home-grown sextet of quality professionalism. Six musicians who between them have over 200 years of music industry experience, and they totally deserve to be household names globally as they and their music deserve.
Their experience is vast. Keyboardist Ernest Semu is a veteran of the Australasian music scene. Ernest’s talent on the keys has seen him share the stage with some of the most recognisable names in New Zealand music, including Frankie Stevens, John Rowles, Sir Howard Morrison, Tina Cross, and Annie Crummer. Many Kiwis will recognise Leyton Greening, who has been a member of Herbs, and played many gigs both here in New Zealand and internationally, whilst “the two Nicks”, who have percussion and bass guitar duties have performed across the country in numerous live gigs and musical theatre performances.
GroovExpress has considerable depth and is led with consummate professionalism by musical director, producer, composer, guitarist and vocalist Mykeljon. MJ’s resume is more than impressive. He has released his own solo albums, composed, mixed, layered and produced entirely under his own mantra, having lived and performed internationally with over 5,000 gigs, he also has the technical qualifications and skills to accompany his unquestioned musical ability. As composer of the songs and music for the ‘Ukrainian Doll’ and ‘Live at GVR’ albums he – like most other smooth jazz artists – have battled the corporate networks to get the material recognised and played on NZ airwaves.
Multi award winning artist Mykeljon has now turned to the American & European market to promote their CDs, and has been overwhelmed by the response. PhaseGlobalRadio.Com has been the main supporter for the band in Australia and now we are proud to take the GroovExpress unique sound to the world! The accolades for the band are rich and numerous, their Soul-Jazz improvised music appeals to music lovers globally.
This new live album ‘Live at GVR’ – recorded on the back of a flat deck rail car at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway in Waiuku, New Zealand – really showcases their raw real talent. No overdubs, no studio trickery, tracks recorded on one take! The music industry has recognised this talent too. To be submitted for a GRAMMY nomination is not easy!
