AgapéSoul is back with a New Soul-Funk, Jazz Album that sees Darryl Anders picking up from where their debut smash album Believe In Love left off – The New Album Conversations features renown artists, soulful vocals and a solid groove that will blow your mind.
“The name AgapéSoul comes from the Ancient Greek word (ἀγάπη, agapé) meaning love…Agapé - The idea of God’s (agapé) love for mankind, soul-the place within in us where music comes from, and our overarching love for that music.” The music itself on this album is a conversation between musicians, who listen and respond to each other while also having a conversation with the audience and feeding off their energy. The conversation changes you, and those who listen will learn and be engaged in it for life.
AgapéSoul is the brainchild of bassist Darryl Anders, who grew up playing trumpet before switching to bass. Early in his career, the veteran Bay Area bassist had spent many years immersed in the world of music-oriented video gaming platforms, reproducing songs for best-selling products like Karaoke Revolution, Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Seeking a more personal creative outlet for his own burgeoning artistry, he brought together a collective of musical friends to help him record a batch of Jazz and R&B oriented songs he had co-written with renowned pianist, recording artist and Jazz educator Dr. Joe Gilman. Even without major promotion, Believe in Love, the first album under the name AgapéSoul, earned comparisons to popular R&B/Jazz ensembles Incognito and Brand New Heavies – and hit #1 on the UK Soul Chart and #7 on the UK Soul Top 30 Best of 2012.
The New Album features renown artists including Tommy Sims, the Nashville bass/song writing/production powerhouse who co-wrote Eric Clapton's "Change the World", L.A. studio great Paul Jackson Jr., former Prince guitarist Levi Seacer and the magnificent Eric Gales to bring a whole new spark to this brilliant album. Also featured on this album is Snarky Puppy horns Michael "Maz" Maher and Chris Bullock.
Darryl Anders flashy, funky bass performances proves that he's clearly having fun with this album, revelling in the influence of Marcus Miller, one of his mentors. Throughout the album, the musicians—handpicked by Anders and among the best in the Bay Area—shine in their respective roles. Conversations reflects the bond of the core members (and the extended AgapéSoul family) who poured their hearts into the project; their chemistry and top-notch skills are a firm rebuke of the slickly engineered, soulless sound that has become the norm in pop music. If, as many musicians say, a band is only as good as its rhythm section, AgapéSoul certainly has the goods: the hook-up between Darryl Anders, The Special Guest Featured Artists and The AgapéSoul band is pure gold.
The Merriam-Webster's online dictionary defines conversation as "an oral exchange of sentiments, observations, opinions, or ideas." In today's world, hardened along racial, class, and religious lines and led by unshakeable convictions on both sides of every divide, true dialogue can sometimes seem positively quaint.
Into this environment steps Conversations, the New Album by Bassist, Producer, and Songwriter Darryl Anders and his band, AgapéSoul. The title works on two levels: Not only is this a conversation between AgapéSoul and the rest of the world, but it's also a profound, joyful dialogue between all the musicians, who breathe abundant life into this 10-song set list. And what a Funky, Smooth, Soulful set list it is! Bass in your face, Soulful Vocals, Solid Groove & Tasteful Guitar!
